An autonomous
software-engineering agent that lives on your desktop.

Unmild Agent is not a chatbot window. It is a complete Windows-native app that plans, edits, runs and verifies until the task is truly done — inside your working folder, under your permission rules, with your model.

▣ Available on Microsoft Store — search “Unmild Agent” or open the link. Paid app, bring your own API key.

What is Unmild Agent?

Unmild Agent is a Windows desktop shell for an autonomous AI coding agent — paid on Microsoft Store.

Short answer (2 lines): It is a full interactive desktop app built with Rust + egui that gives an AI model real tools — list_dir, read/write/delete files, run_command, open_url, screenshot, remember — constrained to your working folder. Paid app on Microsoft Store; you bring the model via any OpenAI-compatible API or Anthropic Messages API.

Think of it as Claude Code / Codex, but as a native Windows app you own. The UI — sidebar, chat transcript, compositor with Attach / Model / Effort / Permissions, terminal and browser panels — is real and clickable.

What it is

  • Native Windows app (Microsoft Store, tray-persistent)
  • Autonomous agent loop: plan → act → verify → repeat
  • Bring-your-own-key (OpenRouter, AgentRouter, OpenAI, etc.)
  • Permission modes: Ask first / Auto-edit / Full access

What it is not

  • Not a web wrapper or Electron shell
  • Not a hosted SaaS — runs locally on your machine
  • Not a generic chatbot — sandboxed to your folder
  • Not hardcoded to one model vendor

Capabilities — real tools, not mockups

Everything an autonomous agent needs — already wired in the shell.

Seven filesystem tools, terminal, browser, memory. Each tool declares its JSON schema for both OpenAI and Anthropic wires. Permissions gate every write.

Native Windows integration

Real file/folder pickers via rfd, native title-bar caption colors via windows-sys, system-tray persistence (hidden message window + Shell_NotifyIcon), show/hide toggle on API key.

Bring your own model

OpenAI POST /chat/completions by default. If a model advertises anthropic in supported_endpoint_types, switches to POST /messages with x-api-key. Probes both wires on auth failure.

Permission modes & effort

Ask first every edit, Auto-edit (writes auto, deletes ask), Full access never asks. Effort maps to max_tokens: Low 1024 → Max 16384.

Terminal & Browser panels

Embedded terminal (PowerShell) and browser view. Agent can run commands, open URLs, take screenshots — you see progress live in the “Thinking…” indicator and stop any turn.

Connectors (Sanyojak)

Toggle external app connections in the Attach popover. UI state only in the shell — ready to wire to real app connectors without UI changes.

Memory that persists

How Unmild Agent works

Four steps from zero to working software.

01

Install from Microsoft Store. Set your key.

Open Microsoft Store → Unmild Agent, install, then create a project folder and open Configuration → paste base URL + API key → Test Connection hits GET {base}/models live.

Configuration modal test connection flow
02

Pick model, effort, permissions.

Searchable model picker (aggregators can list hundreds). Effort = token budget. Permissions = how much autonomy. Attach files/images/folders as chips — images base64’d to the model.

Composer bar with Attach, Model, Effort, Permissions popovers
03

Send. Watch it work. Approve if needed.

Message appends to transcript, “Thinking…” with live status lines. If mode is Ask first, a permission modal blocks the agent thread until you allow/deny. Stop button cancels at next loop boundary.

04

Verify. Ship. Repeat per project in parallel.

Reply arrives with elapsed time, file-change summary (+X −Y), and token usage gauge. Turns run per-project in parallel — chat in one while another builds.

Design language

Built like a mature editorial-tech brand — not a gradient SaaS template.

“Typography + spacing + content + hierarchy > decoration.”

The app’s palette — graphite elevation ramp, off-white canvas, single orange accent (#FF9A00) — carries into the site: restrained colors, strong type, asymmetric composition, 1px borders, generous but intentional whitespace, real screenshots over AI illustrations.

  • Fonts: Instrument Sans + JetBrains Mono (1–2 families, clear hierarchy)
  • 8px grid, golden-ratio derived spacing & type scale
  • Subtle borders & minimal shadows (no glassmorphism, no purple glow)
  • Interesting nav, consistent components, deliberate mobile layout
Theme customization with color tokens
ThemeColors runtime system — active palette in a thread-local Cell, swapped live from Settings → Customize. Call sites stay declarative: Palette::ACCENT().

Who it’s for

  • Windows developers who want local, sandboxed autonomy
  • Teams that want to own the agent, not rent a cloud IDE
  • Anyone with an OpenAI-compatible key (OpenRouter, AgentRouter, etc.)

Cost — direct answer

Paid app on Microsoft Store. See Store listing for price. Model usage billed separately by your provider. Effort Low→Max = 1024→16384 max_tokens.

Unmild Agent

  • Native Windows app from Microsoft Store, single .exe, starts maximized
  • Tray-persistent, native dialogs, real file access
  • Sandboxed to your folder — cannot escape via .. or absolute paths
  • You control permission & effort per turn
  • Remember notes persist across restarts

Typical web chat wrapper

  • Electron/webview, heavy, slow cold start
  • Closes when you close the window
  • Unclear sandbox boundaries
  • One-size token budget
  • Context lost on refresh

Frequently asked questions

Direct answers for humans, AI and Google.

Structured as FAQPage schema so search and AI can cite accurately. Real info from the product, not generic SEO filler.

Unmild Agent is a paid app on Microsoft Store — see the Store listing for current price. You also pay your model provider (OpenRouter, AgentRouter, OpenAI, etc.) for tokens. Effort Low/Medium/High/Ultra/Max map to 1024/2048/4096/8192/16384 max_tokens.

Each turn runs on a background thread. The model is called via ureq (blocking HTTP, rustls). Tool calls come back as JSON; the agent executes list_dir/read_file/write_file/etc. inside the sandbox, posts permission requests via Approver channels if needed, and loops until the model stops calling tools. AppState::tick drains progress, permission and reply channels once per frame.

Compared to cloud coding agents, Unmild Agent runs locally, natively, with real OS integration. No browser IDE, no Electron. You keep data in your folder; the only network calls are to your configured API base URL. Trade-off: Windows only, and you supply the model (no hosted intelligence).

Seconds for small edits, minutes for multi-file refactors. Effort level bounds the reply budget: Low is fastest/cheapest, Max allows deep multi-step loops. You can Stop any turn and the thread bails at the next boundary.

Windows developers who want an agent that owns the working folder end-to-end, with transparent permissions and durable memory (remember). If you prefer local control over a cloud IDE, this is for you.

Windows-only desktop. Sandboxed filesystem (no access outside working folder). No streaming UI yet (non-streaming chat completions). You must provide a valid API key and reachable base URL. Test Connection is the only live network probe until chat.

The app runs locally; file content only leaves your machine inside API calls to the provider you configured. Notes via remember are stored locally per project, not in a cloud.
